Scuba Diver Selfie

The ocean is home to thousands of species of fish and they all share certain key characteristics that distinguish them from other marine life.

This programme will explore their biology, behaviour, common misconceptions, and the impact of human activity on fish and the wider ocean ecosystem.

Take the SSI Fish Identification course and learn to identify and classify fish species, which is invaluable for anyone interested in fish identification.

During the dives, you’ll explore vibrant coral reefs and diverse habitats brimming with marine life. Drawing on knowledge from the theory sessions, you’ll identify key fish families, observing their distinctive shapes, colours, and behaviours.

Guided by your instructor, you’ll watch how fish interact with their environment, including their feeding habits and symbiotic relationships with other marine species. You’ll develop the ability to distinguish subtle differences between similar species and build confidence in recognising a wide variety of fish.

PREREQUISITES

Before beginning the SSI Fish Identification Specialty Course, we need you to be a SSI Open Water Diver (or equivalent). A higher rating of Advanced Adventurer would be even better!

Why? With marine conservation, we are conducting most of our scuba diving in very close proximity to the coral reefs. We need our students to be certified divers and of an advanced enough level, that they can control their position very comfortably underwater.

If you do not have the SSI Open Water Diver certification yet, you can take it and the SSI Advanced Adventurer Diver Course to boost your underwater skills.
