Your first steps to exploring the underwater world starts with the SSI Open Water Diver Course.
One of the most popular courses in the world, this diver certification teaches you all the skills that you need to know to be able to scuba dive.
If you want to start your journey into marine conservation, then first you need to learn how to scuba dive.
Once completed, you will join millions of divers around the world and be part of the scuba diving club.
Your diving certification will allow you to scuba dive to a maximum of 18 metres deep and is valid worldwide.
This opens up the shallow coral reefs for you to explore with a dive buddy and begin your diving life. Let the fun begin!
OPEN WATER DIVER SCHEDULE
Day 1 - Open Water Diver
Arrive on Koh Tao, check in and relax until your Open Water orientation at 5pm.
Day 2 - Open Water Diver
AM – Open Water Theory & Pool Session 1 – Taking your first steps at Scuba Diving
PM – Pool session 2 – Further skills training to ensure your safety, comfort and fun throughout the course, including swim tests.
Day 3 - Open Water Diver
AM – Theory and time for any catch up
PM – Open Water Dives 1 & 2 – Time to head out to the ocean on a dive boat and see the real underwater world.
Day 4 - Open Water Diver
AM – Open Water Dives 3 & 4 – Head back out on the dive boat to complete your Open Water Dive Course.
PM – Relax – Paperwork, certification and enjoy yourself.
PREREQUISITES
To take part in the SSI Open Water Diver Course, you have to be a minimum of 10 years old.
Basic swimming skills would be an advantage as you have to be able to swim 200 metres and also float for 10 minutes as part of the course requirements.
You also need to have a minimum level of fitness and health with no medical conditions that would exclude you. You can download the medical statement here for viewing or to take to your doctor if needed.
