Marine ecology is a fascinating and expansive field that sparks curiosity and wonder.

This programme offers a comprehensive introduction to the subject, exploring how organisms interact with each other and their environment, the flow of energy within communities, and the interconnectedness of ocean ecosystems.

Take the SSI Marine Ecology course and learn about our oceans.

During the dives, you’ll explore vibrant coral reefs, observing the complex relationships between marine organisms. You will identify key species, such as corals, fish, and invertebrates, and understand their roles within the ecosystem. Witness fascinating symbiotic interactions, like cleaner fish tending to other species or the relationship between corals and their algae.

Your instructor will teach you how to recognise signs of a thriving ecosystem as well as areas impacted by human activity, such as coral bleaching or excessive algal growth.

These dives provide a hands-on opportunity to connect with the underwater world, deepening your appreciation for its complexity and natural beauty.

PREREQUISITES

Before beginning the SSI Marine Ecology Course, we need you to be a SSI Open Water Diver (or equivalent). A higher rating of Advanced Adventurer would be even better!

Why? With marine conservation, we are conducting most of our scuba diving in very close proximity to the coral reefs. We need our students to be certified divers and of an advanced enough level, that they can control their position very comfortably underwater.

If you do not have the SSI Open Water Diver certification yet, you can take it and the SSI Advanced Adventurer Diver Course to boost your underwater skills.
